Last year, I took Mr. Zeng's Chinese I class. Because of some scheduling difficulties, I could not take Chinese II this year. In order to continue the study of Chinese, I have been using the website www.livemocha.com during my period of independent study. The Live Mocha website has two main sections, both of which aid in the study of any language you select. The first section is the lesson area, where a student can learn new vocabulary, can practice reading, listening comprehension, and sentence structure. The second section
of the website allows the student to befriend native speakers of the language they are studying who wish to learn English. Without the exchange of personal information, the student can chat with or send messages to native speakers who are willing to correct the student's grammar. In exchange, the student may be asked to correct the English of his "language partner". While the lesson section of the website is comparable to the Rosetta Stone program which I used last year in class, the ability to practice with real Chinese speakers on the Live Mocha site has allowed my understanding of Chinese to grow drastically.
